Curly Curl Cream & The Great Detangler

I have always been a big fan of Taliah Waajid's Products.  Her Black Earth Products line were some of the 1st Natural hair specific products that I ever tried and I've been using them for a few years.  They have recently added a line Curly, Waves & Naturals.  I was fortunate enough to be able to obtain a few of the products at a hairshow for a good hairshow price :-) I am happy to report that I have been using the Curly Curl Cream & The Great Detangler for about 6 months and I am LOVING the results.
(Mineral Oil is listed in the ingredients of The Great Detangler)

As stated in a previous post...

<<< I look for products that will  assist my hair in retaining moisture, while remaining soft and touchable.  I also like it to smell good...When MY hair gets moisture it spirals and shines.  If I can find a product that can make this last for a week, then I feel like its a good product.  I believe that my hair is thin type 4a/4b. It enjoys a thick, creamy, leave in conditioner.>>>

I will also add that I am perfectly happy with my hair and its texture, my goal is never to change that, however, I am ok with enhancing what I already have.

The Great Detangler & The Curly Curl Cream meet all of MY requirements, leaving my hair shiny, moisturized and soft to the touch.  I can get this to last for a week with daily refreshing.

I use both of these products as a leave in (yes I mix in a little of The Great Detangler in with my Curly Curl Cream) and apply it to wet hair and let air dry for a wash n go.  Along with producing great results, these products are also economical and easily obtainable since you can get them at Walgreens, Target, Etc.

Curl Sealer (haven't tried the Curl Sealer yet!)

Have you tried these products?  I'd love to know what you think about them!

Curly Girls Rock & World Natural Hair Show HAULs!!

It goes with out saying that I had a BALL this year at Atlanta's "Natural Hair Weekend" April 29th & 30th.  I kicked it off Friday night at The Curly Girls Rock soiree at Harlem Nights and I finished it with a fun filled visit to The World Natural Hair Health & Beauty Show on Saturday, April 30th.  You can view my videos for BOTH events on my You tube Channel:  The SistahChick's Spot.

The SistahChick Attends Curly Girls Rock
The SistahChick & The LittleChick Attend the World Natural Hair Show

My documention of the weekend's events would not be complete without a "HAUL" report.  Don't you just love a good haul?  A "Haul" if you dont know, is the end sum of all items obtained in abundance from events, expos, shopping trips, etc.  It doesnt matter if the items are freebies or purchases, if you love them, you got them and you brought them home... its a haul!

Curly Girls Rock sent EVERYbody home with something!  I mean they were giving away SO much stuff it was crazy!  They had door prizes, gift bags, samples, raffles, you name it.  We were presented with a NaturallyCurly.com bag at the door.  Inside the bag was:  A water bottle from Harlem Nights, and Samples from Mixed Chicks, Oyin Handmade, Darcy's Botanicals, Hair Rules, SofNfree & Pooka Pure & Simple.  African Pride was there giving out samples, I saw Miss Jessie's gift bags too and there was MUCH more!

I even won a raffle!  I was so excited when they called my ticket # and ESPECIALLY since my prize was a Sage Naturalceuticals Gift Set.  It included:  Full size bottles of Oyin Handmade's Greg Juice & Honey Hemp Conditioner, A coupon for 10% off and a gift card for $25!!!  What a night!

I Just LOVE a good giveaway!!

The next day we went to the World Natural Hair show.  I must say that I was disappointed that I could not get the Jane Carter items that I wanted.  I had planned to try a few new things as well as stock up on some stuff.  Unfortunately, about 20 thousand people beat me to it.  Oh well, since i couldn't get that stuff I moved on to other things.

Just a few things

...other bangles and baubles

I love, love, love my Uncle Funky's Extra Butter.  Lucky for me they were there and fully stocked!
I was already a fan of Pura Body Naturals products, so i picked up some Sapote Hair Lotion & Capuacu Hair Butter.  I also saw Afroveda there and decided to pick a couple of their products to try.  I wonder if my hair will agree with their Moisture Milk Herbal Hair Conditioner and/or the Curl Define Hair Butter Cream.  I will be sure to let you know!

The JessiCurl products looked interesting and smelled great.  The lady at the booth was so nice I had to get some Too Shea Extra Moisturizing Conditioner.  I cant wait to try it!

Since the hair show I have given Taliah Waajid's Curls, Waves, & Naturals line a try.  I picked up the Curly Curl Cream, Curl Sealer and The Great Detangler.  Stay tuned for the review!  In addition, I picked up a few sets of TW's Kinky Wavy Natural Kids line to be used for giveaways.  Each set includes:  Berry Clean, Style & Shine, and Herbal Comb Out.

Can you say, "Happy Camper"??  I am gonna have so much fun trying out and reporting everything to you!  Stay tuned!

Thanks as always for reading
Peace :-)

The Bronner Bros 2010 Mid Winter International Hair & Beauty Show - Atlanta

I had a GREAT time at this event!! This is the 1st hairshow that I have ever attended and I couldnt have picked a better place to lose my hairshow virginity than the The Bronner Bros 2010 Mid Winter International Hair & Beauty Show. It was very crowded so it's good that everything was super organized. This show runs from February 20th - February 23rd. If you are into hair and in ATL this weekend you might want to check it out. I chose the $40 1 day Exhibit Hall Pass. (There are many other pricing options available, including 3 day VIP passes. See the website for details http://bit.ly/dfigm4 ) The Exhibit Hall Pass gives you access to over 300 displays of the best (or worst) that Black Hair Care has to offer. Being a Natural Chick, a lot of it did not pertain to me, but it was still fun to look & listen. I loved the many mini productions that took place from aisle to aisle. The lights, the action, the drama... it was good fun.

Even though this show did not cater to Naturals, I was able to bump into a few well known Natural Hair Product Vendors such as:

Wendy & Kim, the creators of Mixed Chicks. These 2 Chicks were super cool. It was a pleasure to meet them. It was even more cool that Kim knew who I was when I got there! (These girls really do watch our YouTube videos regarding their products!) It blew me away that she was just as excited to meet me as I was to meet her!

I spent some time @ The Taliah Waajid booth, and got a fantastic deal on some 32 oz bulk size products that I use already and some that I have yet to try. These sizes were being sold 2 for $30. I have been a fan of the TW Products for awhile, so this made me very happy and I stocked up. I got 2 of the 32 oz Herbal Condish, 1 - 32 oz Protective Mist Bodifier and 1 - 32 oz Total Body Shampoo. I have never tried the Protective Mist Bodifier before so looking forward to that. I also learned about TW's New Kinky, Wavy, Natural Kids line. (info regarding this line coming soon to Our Natural Kids - join today so you wont miss it! http://ournaturalkids.ning.com/ ) The folks running this booth were very informative and gave so many compliments regarding my natural hair, that i wanted to stay with them and never leave. Check out my review of TW Products http://bit.ly/6bEzKG

I got the deal of the century @ The Jane Carter Solution Booth. I have been wanting to try these products for awhile, so being able to get the full size 8 oz bottles for $5 bucks a piece motivates me :-) Stay tuned to my YouTube Channel for a review ( http://bit.ly/5NZLg1 ) Here is what I got:

4 oz Nourish & Shine
8 oz Revitalizing Leave In Condish
8 oz Hydrating Invigorating Shampoo - (SLS FREE) **New
8 oz Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner

I really liked the fact that Clairol used this beautiful Natural haired model during the exhibition for their Beautiful Collection.

Unfortunately I could not find any White Shea butter, every vendor that I saw only had the yellow kind.

These really cool earrings caught my eye... Thank you Earring Lady http://www.myspace.com/robynsearrings

It was a great way to spend a few hours, and I'd say it was worth it. Shouts out to my hubby for going with me and carrying all of my stuff :-) If you went tell me what you thought of it.

Can't wait to attend the Natural Hair Show in April 2010!!

Thanks for reading!!

Peace,

The SistahChick's YouTube Channel!

I am sure that I have made reference to my YouTube Channel before, but please allow me to formerly introduce it to you. In April 2009, I decided that I would like to chronicle my Natural hair journey among other things in a way that documented as well as expressed the real me, doin what I do best and thats running my mouth! LOL. So I set up a YouTube Channel and the rest is history. By joining all of the very knowledgeable ladies of the YouTube Natural Hair Movement not only have i made some really cool friends, but I have also gotten and given some truly wonderful advice. Even though I decided to go Natural and BC'd back in 2006, I had never actually gotten to know my tresses very well, and was limited to simple Puff with Headband styles. I knew nothing about properly moisturizing, curl defining, conditioning...none of that. It was through YouTube that I learned how to properly care for, style and pamper my gorgeous 4a- 4b hair. I continue to learn daily and share knowledge as I go. As you will see, I have gotten my entire family involved in my journey and we are having lots of fun. Its been especially exciting for me and my little girl who is affectionately referred to as "The LittleChick". My decision to go Natural has opened up the door to so many things, and even led me to quit smoking! (I have been nicotene free, since June 19, 2009!!! - Check out the Freedom Series below!) Well enough with the intro... see for yourself :-) Below are several links. I hope you enjoy!

The Hair Journey Continues!!

Wow! My hair journey has been kicked into high gear! Not only have i been able to test and review several new products, but I am learning about what ingredients to look for in certain products and which ones are important for healthy hair (No Petroleum, No Cones, No Sulfates!). Some of the techniques that I have tried have given me magnificent results (Stretched Out Afros, Twist Outs, Curl Refreshers, Shingling, etc.) I have expanded my hair supplies to include various things that I didnt have before (Rat Tail Comb, Ouchless headbands, Bonnet, Wide Tooth Comb, etc). One of my new necessities include: 100% pure Shea Butter. I haven't developed a full list of staple items yet but I am getting there. Some the newest products that I have enjoyed are:

Carol's Daughter - Khoret Amen Shampoo, Conditioner w/Sea Moss & Smoothie plus Hair Milk (and for the body...Mango Melange Shea Souffle, Body Jelly)

Taliah Waajid's Black Earth Products - Herbal Cleanser, Total Body Shampoo, Enhancing Herbal Conditioner, & Loc It Up

Paul Mitchell's - The Conditioner - Leave In Moisturizer

Lush Cosmetics - Curly Wurly Conditioning Shampoo

Biolage By Matrix - Hair Conditioning Balm

Here is a short list of Natural hair terminology that may not be new to you but it was to me!

BC - aka Big Chop. this is the first step to your natural hair journey. It means that you have cut the perm out down to the new growth to start anew!

Co-Wash - Using Conditioner to wash your hair instead of Shampoo. This process cleans your hair without stripping it of the natural oils that exist.

PrePoo - Shampooing your hair with something like a Clarifying Shampoo prior to using your normal shampoo.

Shingling - Applying product, usually a Leave In Conditioner, to your hair in layers for full coverage.

Stretching - Manipulating your hair in a way that stretches your natural curls to show length.
(more terms to come!)

I haven't gotten my oils (Coconut, TeaTree, Jojoba, etc) locked down to an understanding yet. But I am learning about different oils and their benefits.

Most importantly I am having FUN! The exploration, the pampering, the ME time...it's all been enabled!!! Developing an afinity for the natural me has opened the doors to other needs, such as skincare and physical health, It's hard to explain, but I guess I could say that any improvements that you consciously make for yourself affects your ENTIRE well being. One step at a time, but the path has been shown to me.

Much Love!
