Fro Fashion Week Fall 2012

I wanted my last post of 2012 to be about something that I know, love and am glad to be a part of....  Fro Fashion Week - Atlanta.  Fro Fashion Week is an Atlanta based event that is the brain child of Ms. Tarin Boone.  It is a bi annual week long celebration of natural black beauty.  Since its inception, founder Tarin Boone has taken special care to showcase not only the beauty of African American women, but also to promote black business and networking along with fashion and entertainment.  I have been attending Fro Fashion Week since Fall 2011 and I am honored to have been selected as a Lead Press Supporter for the last  2 installments of this event (Spring 2012 & Fall 2012).  PLUS I just found out recently that I have been selected as Lead Press Supporter again for Fro Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013!!  Being a Lead Press Supporter gives me front row and backstage access to ALL of the components of the event.  Please enjoy just a few of the many moments that were captured during the Fall 2012 show!!

Fro Fashion Week plays host to MANY beauty professionals and products lines and brings you the best workshops available:

The Blogger's Brunch is one of the many highlights of Fro Fashion Week.  It brings together subject matter experts and bloggers who interested in growing their personal brand into a money maker.  Fall 2012 brought us the guru behind MattieOlogie.com Mattie James.  We learned so much.  A key piece that stood out to me was her definition of how to use your VOICE as it relates to blogging/branding.

V ~ Verify if this is really what you want to be doing!  You need to love this to be successful at it.
O ~ Offer yourself on a silver platter to your audience!  give them your best & they will respond!
I ~ Invent yourself!  Your blog may start out being one thing and end up being another. (It's ok!)
C ~ Challenge yourself
E - Expect to Win!!

We were all very inspired!

After a long and exciting day of activities, seminars and Bloggers Brunch, its time to let our natural hair down at the Fro Fashion Week Penthouse party!!  The Penthouse at the Melia hotel has the entire Atlanta City Skyline as its backdrop.  The view is amazing at night!!

Last but certainly not least there is the fiercest fashion show out there and the grande finale of this culmination of fashion and natural beauty.

Bloggers, Brands & Brunch ~ Fro Fashion Week Spring 2012

As a Lead Press Supporter for Fro Fashion Week I was invited to attend Bloggers, Brands & Brunch.  This elegantly planned luncheon for preregistered bloggers & guests was sponsored by Design Essentials.  Beauty, Hair and Culture Blogger, Afrobella was the keynote speaker.  She gave us a very candid and straight forward presentation, where she shared many useful tips on how to become a successful blogger and build your brand.

I jotted down a few of her key suggestions:

*Your logo or name is NOT your brand... YOU are your brand!
*Find your lane and stay in it!
*Be HAPPY for the success of your fellow bloggers!
*Don't allow yourself to be bought and sold.
*Don't allow fear to paralyze you into inaction.
*Dream BIG and Dream FIERCE!

Located in the penthouse of the beautiful Melia Hotel, Atlanta, was the perfect backdrop for a perfect luncheon.

A Who's Who of the Natural Hair Community was in the house.

Actress Kim Coles, Felicia Leatherwood, Master Barber Williams (SofNfree) &  Afrobella
Design Essentials had a one on one with Afrobella.  There was Q & A during the discussion.

Meet the Fro Fashion Week Spring 2012 Lead Press supporters, along with Ms. Tarin Boone.

It was nice to have an established and well respected blogger like Afrobella as Keynote Speaker.  A great time was had by all and we learned so much.

Presidential Inauguration Day - 2009

I did not eat today, until after the Inauguration. My thought was that the inauguration of America's 44th President - Barack Obama was something that I would never see in my lifetime. I did not want to take a chance and choke on my breakfast and miss the whole thing! Think about how many people died before noon today. They didnt get to witness the swearing in of our 1st African American President. I spent the day creating a video diary of my self and my family and how we spent the day. In the future when someone asks where i was on this day, I can just hand them a flash drive. My emotions ran the gammut today, from highly elevated excitement to sheer nervousness, to the surreal. I felt many things, but mainly I felt pride. I had an extra little pep in my step today. I did EVERYthing with pride today. I cried when I listened to Rick Warren's prayer. I smiled when I saw The President and First Lady get out of the car and walk. I laughed with joy when they showed the footage live from Kenya with thousand of people celebrating their native son. I screamed when he raised his right hand!! Mr. President Obama looked so dashing and suave, but also strong, confident and determined. His vibe was very evident. First Lady Michelle...omg! What an elegant and lovely woman she is. Her demeanor is submissive, the way she looks at him, it is also strong...that is HER man, and she has his ear and his back before any other...The adminstration needs to recognize that imo. Michelle is a very well versed, educated and intelligent Black woman. She is not to be messed with....believe that. My husband expressed it this way, "Babe? It's 2009... We are in our 40's, aaand we got a Black President! What the????" LMAO When my daughter came home from school, she said, "Mommy, I think I will be the first black FEMALE president!" And she can be. SHE can be. she CAN be. I am emotionally exhausted. In the eloquent words of Ms. Erykah Badhu... "Oh what a day...What a day, what a day..."
